Batman and Harley Quinn (2017)
Director: Sam Liu
Starring: Kevin Conroy, Melissa Rauch, Paget Brewster
Synopsis:
When Poison Ivy teams up with Jason Woodrue, Batman and Nightwing seek out Harley Quinn as their best clue to finding her.
Impressions:
When I saw a trailer for this, I really wasn't interested, primarily because I wasn't won over by Melissa Rauch's performance as the eponymous Harley Quinn. Arleen Sorkin she ain't. Was Tara Strong not available or something? The animation quality is TV grade at best (and not even from a particularly good day) and during the pointless song and dance sequence in the second act we have such limited dance cycles that they'd feel right at home in an episode of Scooby-Doo. Said song and dance sequence has a duet by Rob Paulsen (yes, just Rob Paulsen and you read it right, a duet) that a lot of people tend to praise, so maybe that'll do something for you. In both language and sexual content, it very much has the feel of "Hey, look what we can get away with direct to video!" rather than affecting an actual mature tone. Speaking of immaturity, they actually resort to fart jokes and it's as bad as you'd imagine. The story would only be so-so without the rubbish on the side. There's nothing I can really recommend about this one (though, hey, you may want to see that Rob Paulsen duet for yourself). Pass on this.
