X-Men (2000)

Synopsis:
A runaway and a drifter are targeted by a mutant supremacist plotting an attack on a UN summit.

Impressions:
If you like the current comic book movie boom, this film deserves a lot of the credit for getting the ball rolling. Unlike many first entries of comic book-based franchises that have to be Day 1 origin stories, this one uses Rogue as our point of entry into plotlines already well underway, but our POV character soon shifts to Wolverine. It's a good way to cater to the uninitiated without building everything from the ground up. The casting is amazing. Who better to play Professor X than Patrick Stewart? Ian McKellen is amazing as Magneto and while Hugh Jackman is rather tall to be Wolverine, he makes the role his own. While there are a few cringeworthy lines and Toad's CG tongue looks terrible, there's not too much to complain about. It's a fine comic book movie and well worth watching.
