Synopsis:
An alien parasite runs rampant in a small town.

Impressions:
I actually stumbled onto this film by accident thanks to a DVR error and stuck around when I saw Nathan Fillion. Written and directed by James Gunn of Guardians of the Galaxy fame, this is an interesting creature feature that has a lot of different things going on. It blends elements from several different horror films to make a unique amalgamation. If you consume a lot of horror, you'll recognize all these elements and it may enhance your enjoyment of the film. Billed as a horror comedy, there are definitely some comic elements, but don't mistake this for a laugh riot or anything. Nathan Fillion is an appealing lead and Gregg Henry provides most of the comedy as the coarse Mayor MacReady. The practical effects are pretty good, but the CG stuff looks like it came right out of a SyFy original movie. It's not perfect by any stretch, but it's worth a watch at least.
