Impressions:
I really didn't have much to do with Disney during its Second Dark Age, so I completely missed this one. Or perhaps I should say I didn't miss it after seeing it for myself. This is an okay kids' movie, but nowhere near the standard we'd expect of a Disney feature. The quality of the CG could pass for a high-budget TV show, but it pales in comparison to what Pixar's Ratatouille from the same year. (Frankly, it's amazing how far Disney's CG goes from this film to Tangled a mere three years later.) More than the production quality, the story is fairly meh, with a big, largely pointless chunk of the film devoted to meeting the eponymous Robinsons, who largely seem to be quirky for the sake of being quirky. There's a lot of mugging of the camera by dumb stuff that's apparently supposed to be making an impact on the audience, like the singing frogs. I'll admit that movie got a few chuckles out of me, but it really wasn't enough to justify the overall experience. Even going in with no particular expectations, I was underwhelmed, but you may have more favorable regard to it. Much like the Snidley Wiplash wannabe villain, the film is mostly harmless. This one's a tossup. Take it or leave it.
