The Incredibles (2004)

The Incredibles (2004)

Director: Brad Bird
Starring: Craig T Nelson, Samuel L Jackson, Holly Hunter

Synopsis:
In a world were superheroes are banned, ex-hero Mr. Incredible receives a secret assignment that allows him to escape his boring everyday life and recapture the glory days, but his mysterious benefactor is hiding a dangerous secret.

Impressions:
This is one of my favorite Pixar films, balancing maturity and kid appeal, featuring plenty of memorable, layered characters, and making strides in the field of computer animation. It's gratifying to see Brad Bird have a film with the gross to match his critical acclaim. You don't have to be a fan of old-school superhero comics to enjoy the movie, but if you do, there's all the more to love. Performances are solid across the board, but I want to give particular note to Jason Lee as Syndrome and Brad Bird himself as the colorful Edna Mode. Pixar managed to get over the less than impressive human models of earlier films by taking a more stylized approach and make some impressive progress (for the time) with hair sim. The lively score by Michael Giacchino also deserves a mention. By all means, give this movie a watch and add it to your collection.
