Starring: Wesley Snipes, Kris Kristofferson, Ron Perlman
Synopsis:
Blade forms an unsteady alliance with a vampire hit squad to eliminate the threat of a dangerous new strain known as the Reapers.
Impressions:
I have somewhat mixed feelings about this movie. Some people like that this is more showy than the original, but I rather liked the more grounded feel of the first movie. Still, there's some quality action here. The Bloodpack is a bit of mixed bag for me, but I did particularly like Ron Perlman as Reinhardt and Donnie Yen as Snowman. I'm a little mixed on the design of the Reapers as well, but I do appreciate the detail of the autopsy scene. Wesley Snipes continues to be pretty well picture-perfect as the title character and I also like Leonor Varela as Nyssa. I didn't like the character of Scud, but because it's fully lampshaded in-universe what a pile of crap he is, I mind it less. Going as far as it does, the movie can be a little silly at times and some of the effects haven't aged that well, but if you're a fan of Blade, you should be satisfied with this. I will admit to being in the camp that feels a movie about Blade vs. the Bloodpack, removing the Reapers entirely would've been just as interesting if not more so, but it was kinda neat seeing the uneasy alliance between the Daywalker and his mortal enemies. Give this one a watch.
