The Two Jakes (1990)
Director: Jack Nicholson
Starring: Jack Nicholson, Harvey Keitel, Meg Tilly
Synopsis:
A private investigator's adultery case turns to murder and his past comes back to haunt him as competing interests push him from all sides.
Impressions:
This being the sequel to Chinatown, I probably should've seen Chinatown first. So it goes. From what I understands, this movie suffers from being in the shadow of its much more high-profile predecessor. Perhaps not having seen Chinatown first makes it easier to judge it on its own merits. It's a decent modern noir movie, not particularly exceptional but not having any major deficiencies either. There are some interesting twists, but again, it's nothing that outstanding. If you like this sort of movie and you're a Jack Nicholson fan, I'd say you have something worth seeing.
