To Sir, With Love II (1996)

To Sir, With Love II (1996)

Director: Peter Bogdanovich
Starring: Sidney Poitier, Christian Payton, Dana Eskelson

Synopsis:
Following his retirement, Mark Thackeray goes to Chicago to teach at an inner city high school.

Impressions:
As I went into this, I thought it was going to be little more than a weak attempt to cash in on the good name and reputation of its predecessor, but I was surprised to find it rather decent. Not as good or impactful as the original, of course, but still a solid all-around movie. It was a nice bit of nostalgia seeing some of the original cast members come back for the first scene. It was interesting seeing Thackeray try to apply his techniques to a different time and place. You mileage may vary on the effectiveness of the various subplots, but it all came together well enough. If you liked the first film, I think you'll appreciate this one too. Give it a watch.
