The Exorcist III (1990)

The Exorcist III (1990)

Director: William Peter Blatty
Starring: George C Scott, Ed Flanders, Jason Miller

Synopsis:
Lieutenant Kinderman investigates a string of murders believed to be connected to a serial killer who was executed years earlier.

Impressions:
After Exorcist II, I can understand skepticism about another Exorcist sequel, but I had heard this was surprisingly good, and I'm a fan of George C Scott (who replaces the late Lee J Cobb as Bill Kinderman), so that was enough for me to give this a shot. Also, the author of the original novel is in the director's chair, so that's neat. While this isn't going to be able to stand side-by-side with the original, this is still a compelling supernatural/psychological thriller with fine performances by Scott, John Miller and Brad Dourif. Dourif in particular is captivating as the Gemini Killer, but he's always had a penchant for playing psychopaths. I also want to give a nod to Nicol Williamson for his brief but striking appearance as Father Morning. There's a bit of the surreal tossed in for spice for a memorable viewing experience. I enjoyed it and recommend giving it a watch.
