They Live (1988)
Director: John Carpenter
Starring: Roddy Piper, Keith David, Meg Foster
Synopsis:
A drifter working at a construction site stumbles on a pair of sunglasses that tears away the cloak of illusion that is the world as we know it.
Impressions:
While this may not be the most well-known of John Carpenter's movies, it's still a memorable, entertaining film. It takes some of the themes of paranoia from The Thing and weave it in with the hypermaterialism of the 80s. Roddy Piper is entertaining in the lead role and Keith David is always good. The infamous brawl between this two is a sight to behold. Holy moley. There's some good action and if you're conspiratorially minded, there's some resonance in the message. Give it a watch.
