The Final Conflict (1981)

The Final Conflict (1981)

Director: Graham Baker
Starring: Sam Neill, Rossano Brazzi, Don Gordon

Synopsis:
As the successful head of Thorn Industries, Damien accepts the post of ambassador to Great Britain in a big to thwart the Second Coming of Christ.

Impressions:
If you're invested in the saga of Damien Thorn, this is a fairly rewarding conclusion to the trilogy. Sam Neill makes his American debut in a big way as the adult Damien. He can show superficial charm, cold-bloodedness and seething anger in his rants to "the Nazarene". Because Damien is the protagonist here, you feel more removed from the forces working to take him down. I suppose it makes for an interesting perspective shift from the previous two films. Besides the praise for Neill's performance, I don't have that much to say for the movie. Don't take that as a poor reflection on the quality of the movie itself. While certainly still inferior to the first entry, it's a solid follow-up and does a decent job of bringing the story to a close. (Let's ignore Omen IV.) If you've been watching the series this far, go ahead and see it through.
