Streets of Fire (1984)
Director: Walter Hill
Starring: Michael Paré, Diane Lane, Rick Moranis
Synopsis:
When a rising singer is kidnapped by a violent gang, her boyfriend/manager hires a mercenary drifter, who just so happens to be her ex-boyfriend, to save her.
Impressions:
People call this a spiritual successor to The Warriors and I'd definitely agree. It has a lot of the same feel and I could buy the story happening in the same universe. Being written and directed by Walter Hill, it should come as little surprise. This isn't a bad take on the "save the princess" story with a nice power trio formed by Michael Paré as brash leading man Tom Cody, Amy Madigan as fellow vet and grease monkey McCoy, and Rick Moranis as the weaselly manager/boyfriend of Cody's old flame. You also get Willem Dafoe as villain Raven and a small part for Bill Paxton. I dug the characters and as a result, I dug this movie. If you're looking for a rock n' roll quest movie, this isn't a bad place to look. Give it a shot.
