Pumpkinhead (1988)

Pumpkinhead (1988)

Director: Stan Winston
Starring: Lance Henriksen, Jeff East, John D'Aquino

Synopsis:
A country shopkeeper loses his son to the recklessness of a group of city teenagers and will go so far as to call upon the demon known as Pumpkinhead to exact his revenge.

Impressions:
I was surprised to see that Stan Winston actually directed this movie himself, one of the few directorial credits to his name. While a master of creature creation and special effects, I can't say he impresses much with this offering, but it may be more of a shortcoming of the script. This isn't a terrible movie as hillbilly horror/creature feature flicks go, but it's not particularly good either. If you're a big fan of monster movies, then go ahead and give this one a whirl. There's much worse things out there. (The sequel won't win any prizes, for instance.) Give it some thought and make your choice.
