Poltergeist II: The Other Side (1986)
Director: Brian Gibson
Starring: JoBeth Williams, Craig T Nelson, Heather O'Rourke
Synopsis:
The Freelings are adapting to life after the traumatic experience they suffered, but their troubles with the supernatural are not over yet.
Impressions:
You can be forgiven for having doubts about the prospect of a sequel to Poltergeist, but this one is pretty good. It's a nice organic continuation to the story that helps bring further closure if you were left hanging about what exactly was going on with the haunting. If you're turned off by the Magic Native American trope, you won't like this movie, but if it doesn't bother you, there should be no problem. Though Zelda Rubinstein returns, the show-stealer this time is Julian Beck as villain, sadly his last role. He's great. The rest of the cast do fine. It feels like a step down from the first one, but it's not particularly bad. If you liked the first one, I think you'll like this one too.
