Innerspace (1987)
Director: Joe Dante
Starring: Dennis Quaid, Martin Short, Meg Ryan
Synopsis:
A test pilot in a miniaturization experiment is injected into a nerdy hypochondriac
Impressions:
As one of the films of my childhood film canon, Innerspace has a lot of sentimental value for me, but even setting the nostalgia goggles aside, this is a fine little movie. You take the miniaturization/body adventure element of Fantastic Voyage, an industrial espionage action thriller, a cast of colorful and memorable characters, and an excellent score by Jerry Goldsmith and the end result is this movie. This was actually my introduction to both Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan and I really like them here as Tuck Pendleton and his girlfriend Lydia. Rounding out the heroic power trio is Martin Short as Jack Putter. Vernon Wells is amazing as the Terminator-esque assassin Mr. Igoe and Robert Picardo is pretty funny as the Cowboy. The special effects are quite good and as I mentioned earlier, the score is excellent. There's a lot of fun to be had and I highly recommend it.
