Impressions:
The fact that Howard Hawks directed this was all I needed to give it a watch. I didn't realize until afterward that this was his last film. If you know anything about Howard Hawks' movies, then you expect snappy dialog and well-written female characters. The story is fairly average for a Western, but it's these Hawksian qualities that kick this film up a notch. It's just plain fun to watch the characters interact. You've got a solid power trio with John Wayne, Jorge Rivero and Jennifer O'Neill and Jack Elam is great in a supporting role as the elder Phillips. It may not be the best film of Hawks' career, but it's worth a watch.
