Cleopatra Jones and the Casino of Gold (1975)

Cleopatra Jones and the Casino of Gold (1975)

Director: Charles Bail
Starring: Tamara Dobson, Stella Stevens, Tien Ni

Synopsis:
Cleopatra Jones travels to Hong Kong to save her sidekicks when they get taken captive on an undercover assignment.

Impressions:
A collaboration between Warner Brothers and the Shaw Brothers, this movie is an interesting hybrid of blaxploitation and HK action movies. If you're a fan of both, it goes together like chocolate and peanut butter. There's plenty of action to be had with decent fight choreography and I really liked the chemistry between Cleo and Mi Ling, who make a pretty good duo. While Stella Stevens doesn't have as much of a larger than life personality as Shelley Winters from the first film, she does have some action chops which makes for a better final confrontation. Though it was generally less well received than the original, I think it's at least as good. It's rough around the edges, sure, but it's worth a watch in my book.
