The Stranger (1946)
Director: Orson Welles
Starring: Orson Welles, Edward G Robinson, Loretta Young
Synopsis:
An investigator follows a teacher suspected of being a Nazi war criminal.
Impressions:
The prospect of seeing Orson Welles play an incognito Nazi was bait enough to get me to watch this movie. Naturally, Welles is the highlight of the film. While part of me wanted him to be somewhat larger than life à la Harry Lime, but his more reserved portrayal of Franz Kindler is still good. Edward G Robinson is solid as the investigator hunting Kindler down, especially at the end. While this is far from Welles' best work, it's still worth watching.
