Nightmare Alley (1947)
Director: Edmund Goulding
Starring: Tyrone Power, Joan Blondell, Coleen Gray
Synopsis:
An ambitious young carny steals the trick for an act and finds success as a mentalist, but that success cannot last.
Impressions:
This is a modestly interesting film about a mentalist's rise and fall. Tyrone Power is solid in the lead role, but you may find the story veers a little too much into basic morality play. The film would've had a little more punch if they went with a darker ending, but you get what you get. It's not bad viewing, but you may or may not be drawn in by it.
