Battleground (1949)
Director: William A Wellman
Starring: Van Johnson, John Hodiak, Ricardo Montalban
Synopsis:
Paratroopers of the 101st Airborne find themselves besieged at Bastogne.
Impressions:
This is an okay though not exceptional dramatization of one platoon's struggle at Bastogne. They do a good job of having a mixed crew, portraying the oppressiveness of the campaign, and leaving no guarantees on anyone's mortality. It doesn't do much to stand out from dozens of other war movies, though. Maybe if you're particularly drawn to certain members of the cast like Van Johnson or Ricardo Montalban, it'll give you that extra push you need to give it a shot. Otherwise, it won't make that much difference if you see it or not.
