The Case of the Black Cat (1936)

The Case of the Black Cat (1936)

Director: William McGann
Starring: Ricardo Cortez, June Travis, Jane Bryan

Synopsis:
Murders start piling up after the death of a millionaire leads to a battle over the inheritance and Perry Mason has to get to the bottom of it.

Impressions:
For those of you who want a more serious Perry Mason than Warren William, Ricardo Cortez is your man. Even without William's japes, Cortez manages to still be charming and debonair. As for the story itself, I found it a little unnecessarily overcomplicated, but, hey, there are waffles with plenty of melted butter. That's something. While not as good as The Case of the Lucky Legs, it comes in second of the four I've seen so far. I'd say it's worth seeing. Oh, by the by, the title is somewhat misleading as the cat in question isn't black, but whatever.
