A Tale of Two Cities (1935)

A Tale of Two Cities (1935)

Director: Jack Conway
Starring: Ronald Colman, Elizabeth Allan, Edna May Oliver

Synopsis:
Amid the brewing tumult of the French Revolution, the paths of an English lawyer and a former French aristocrat cross and their fates become intertwined.

Impressions:
It's a little odd that A Tale of Two Cities is one of the few works of Dickens I haven't read. The only real prior exposure I have is an episode of Wishbone. Yes, really. Anyway, as I haven't read the original and the only other adaption I've seen had a dog as the main character, I can't speak on the fidelity. It's not a bad movie. A bit maudlin at times, but Ronald Colman is good as always and I also liked Basil Rathbone as the Marquis St. Evrémonde, and Edna May Oliver as the cantankerous Miss Pross. Give this one a watch.
