The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920)
[Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari]
Director: Robert Weine
Starring: Werner Krauss, Conrad Veidt, Friedrich Feher
Synopsis:
A mad hypnotist uses a somnabulist to commit crimes.
Impressions:
One of the great films of the German Expressionist movement and considered by some to be the first horror film, it takes an interesting premise, a suitably creepy lead, and spins a yarn with a really cool twist ending. Parts of it can be a little slow-moving, but a landmark piece of cinema like this deserves to be seen. Give it a watch.
