Impressions:
Given that Finding Nemo was one of Pixar's best grossing films, it's little surprise that it got a sequel, even if it came 13 years later. I seem to hold to the common opinion that the movie is good, quite good in fact, but not quite at the same level as the original. That shouldn't discourage you from giving it a watch. It's worth the ticket price. However, it falls into one of the traps of sequels, which is not only retreading the same ground but making frequent references that call attention to it. Now, this isn't nearly as bad as, say, Home Alone 2, which is basically the same dang movie and never lets you forget it, but it can be a little irksome. Again, it's no dealbreaker and it certainly doesn't actively try to hurt you like Cars 2 did. I did like the new characters of Hank, Destiny and Bailey, and it was neat seeing how Marlin and Nemo's relationship has developed since the previous film. The fish-eye view of a marine park was interesting. (The kiddy area may give you nightmares, though.) I have to tip my hat to Ellen DeGeneres for for showing some impressive dramatic chops in addition to her signature comedy. Whether you find baby Dory simply adorable or more on the creepy cute side is a matter of personal preference. Anyway, give this one a watch for sure. The most die-hard fans will definitely want to be adding it to their collection.
