Impressions:
What can I say about this movie that hasn't been said before? It's a modern classic that revolutionized special effects and has enough staying power for the franchise to keep going 25 years later. I read the book before seeing the movie and there are quite a few differences as you might expect, but this is a fairly solid adaptation all the same. While there are a number of thrilling set pieces, the greatest impression you get from the film is the sense of majesty at the dinosaurs being brought to life, both by the landmark CG wizardry of ILM (which holds up to this day) and the practical work of Stan Winston's crew, accompanied by the amazing score by John Williams. I also have to credit the cast for selling the sense of wonderment as well. Speaking of the cast, regardless of changes made to the characters from their book counterparts, they all manage to be quite memorable. The story nicely builds suspense, punctuated by some of the best creature sequences in cinema. I could go on, but I think you get the picture. If you haven't seen it yet, what are you doing? See it, add it to your collection among the cinema greats. Spare no expense. ^_^
