Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan (1989)

Director: Rob Hedden

Synopsis:
Jason slips onto a cruise ship headed to New York for a senior trip.

Impressions:
I'd heard this was the worst one in the series and after the previous two, I was dreading this something fierce. Now, you might think a movie titled "Jason Takes Manhattan" would take place in... well, Manhattan. You'd be wrong. Nearly two-thirds of the movie is spent on this crappy ship with a gaggle of unlikable characters who only exist to get killed off in boring ways. I got rather annoyed at one case that seemed to be a total waste of setup and payoff, but it turned out that it was a fakeout and the payoff is delivered, albeit in such a fashion that ended with me bursting out in laughter (pretty much the only glimmer of mirth to be found in this 100 minutes of muck and mire). That one laugh I got is the only reason I'm not saying "Burn It". Instead, just spare yourself and pass on it.
