3 Godfathers (1948)

3 Godfathers (1948)

Director: John Ford
Starring: John Wayne, Pedro Armendáriz, Harry Carey Jr.

Synopsis:
Three bank robbers take in an orphaned newborn and brave an unforgiving wasteland while fleeing a posse.

Impressions:
You don't normally see John Wayne play a straight-up criminal, but he does here. Of course, he's a criminal with a steadily expanding soft spot, which provides the distinguishing feature of this movie. Just having the three robbers trying to elude capture would've been interesting enough, but taking care of a newborn along the way definitely raises the stakes. There's some good dramatic irony with the marshal misconstruing what happened along the way. The power trio of Wayne, Pedro Armendáriz and Harry Carey Jr. is strong and compelling. I really liked it and I definitely recommend giving it a watch.
