Dagashi Kashi - Volume 4 (2015)

Author/Artist: Kotoyama
Publisher: Shounen Sunday Comics

Synopsis:
Kokonotsu and You are wiped out after the festival, but Hotaru comes to save the day.

Story/Characters:
In every volume so far there have been several chapters that weren't adapted into the anime, but here the percentage is higher. It's a bit of a shame because a lot of these would've gone well on the screen. I particularly like the juxtaposition of the Taberun Desu Hi (the fortunetelling camera) and the Sakuranbou no Uta chapters. The Cheese Arare chapter is also quite fun because of the incredibly awkward atmosphere between Saya and You. And I would never have expected to see a discourse on Pesach (Passover) in a manga, but we get one in the Oyatsu Calpas chapter.

Art:
The art continues to deliver the goods. I want to make special note of the faux horror imagery in the Pokkin Ice chapter. (Kotoyama could easily do legit horror if he wanted.)

Other:
We only get four 4-koma this time around. When this volume came out, the anime was starting production, so Kotoyama was excited about that.

Conclusion:
This is another fine addition to the series. Fans will definitely want it.
