[鋼の錬金術師]

Fullmetal Alchemist - Volume 6 (2003)

Author/Artist: Hiromu Arakawa
Publisher: Gangan Comics

Synopsis:
Six years ago, Ed and Al struggle to survive on a desert island in the first stage of their training.

Story/Characters:
We continue to follow the Elrics through their training, on to the fateful experiment gone wrong and its aftermath. We've seen glimpses up until now and here we get pretty much all of it laid out. Particularly intriguing is the Gate of Truth. This is touching on the core of the in-story universe, so that should get you excited to see this developed. From there we move on to a new baddie, just getting a taste before the volume ends.

Art:
I want to bring particular note to the imagery around the Gate of Truth. The visuals add to the narrative punch of the sequence.

Other:
We get to see Hughes reimagined somewhat inspired by our new villain in the glamour shot and we get three 4-koma.

Conclusion:
This volume has some good backstory and if you were wanting to see more about the Elrics' past, this is it. We get some tantalizing hints at the bigger picture, so we've got that to keep us going. Give it a read.
