Inuyasha (1999)

Inuyasha - Volume 11 (1999)

Author/Artist: Rumiko Takahashi
Publisher: Shounen Sunday Comics

Synopsis:
With the help of the real Water God, Inuyasha and company turn the battle against the impostor. Later, an injury worsens Miroku's Kazaana and he must seek out an old friend to help him.

Story/Characters:
The best thing about the conclusion of the Water God story is that we start to build some trust between Inuyasha and Sango. (Given how they were introduced, this is an area that needs a fair bit of work, after all.) The next story gives us a glimpse into Miroku's past (something we don't get a lot of in the series) and introduces the character of Mushin, allegedly the source of all Miroku's bad behavior. The third story brings back Kohaku and puts Sango's loyalties to the test. This is just about perfect timing, too, as Sango's had a little time to become part of the team, but they're not quite true companions yet, which makes it all the easier for Naraku to exploit her love for her brother.

Art:
This is another strong showing. One of my favorite scenes happens to be in this volume, where Sango is pondering Naraku's demand to steal Tessaiga. She's looking at Inuyasha and BAM! Extreme closeup of Inuyasha just glaring at her. Good stuff.

Conclusion:
While the Water God story was fairly run-of-the-mill, the next two stories are strong stuff and very good for the characters of Miroku and Sango respectively. They should sufficiently keep you on the edge of your seat.
