WIP Update – 14 Feb 16

I didn’t finish any chapters, but I did make some respectable progress on Garm’s Chapter 3 of TTWC3. With the groundwork I’ve laid, I could probably wrap two or three chapters next cycle. In the meantime, I’m going to be moving on to JJ. Stay tuned.

WIP Update – 13 Feb 16

I did some writing on Scipio’s Chapters 2 and 3 of TTWC3. You might be wondering why I’d be spending time with him when I have yet to finish Garm’s section. I just happened to have some ideas for Scipio’s section and decided to jot them down while I had them. I’ll see if I can’t go back to Garm and get at least one chapter finished before I switch over. Stay tuned.

WIP Update – 12 Feb 16

I jumped ahead a bit to do some work on Garm’s Chapter 3 and Scipio’s epilogue of TTWC3. More time was spent filling out details of the battle record of the Darklands campaign. With TTWC1 and TTWC2 complete, filling out this information only serves to satisfy my own micromanaging tendencies. Maybe I can at least get one chapter finished before the weekend’s out. Stay tuned.

WIP Update – 11 Feb 16

You can be forgiven for thinking I fell off the face of the earth (except for the fact that the site updates still came out on time). I was kept busy by schoolwork and work-work (thanks to my recent return to gainful employment), so I didn’t really have any time for writing. I managed to break the dry spell by doing a little work on Garm’s Chapter 2 of TTWC3 and some work on an If Arc TTWC spinoff I have yet to reveal on the site. While I’ve almost completed my work allotment for the week, I still have a fair bit of homework ahead of me. I’ll see what I can manage, but don’t expect too much. Stay tuned.

WIP Update – 07 Feb 16

I made some more progress on Chapter 16 of JJ, actually beating par for a change, but I still fell short of the goal of finishing the chapter. I’ll just have to pick it up on the next round. In the meantime, it’s time for TTWC3 to have a turn. Stay tuned.

Character Spotlight: Xargos

I’ve stated before that I have trouble clicking with most of the leads of TTWC2, which is a terrible thing for the author to say, but Xargos is one of my favorites. While Orguz is the most sympathetic and Caligo the most interesting (particularly with regard to his backstory), Xargos is one of the most fun as a total dirtbag villain. Vain, greedy, cruel and cowardly, there’s almost nothing redeemable to him and he’s so blatant that he’s pretty fun to write. Now, perhaps the most fun villain to write was Brenok from the KoG series because you take all the above vices and add diabolical cunning. Speaking of which, the fact that Xargos veers into being stupid evil is another part of his charm.

As despicable as he is, I actually feel a bit sorry for Xargos. He’s so arrogant and he’s so much dumber than he thinks he is that he just blindly charges down the path to his own destruction. Compare him with Ophis Python, who was just kinda pathetic. For Python, circumstances were largely out of his control, but Xargos is almost entirely the author of his own ruin. It’s a bit sad, but you have a hard shedding any tears genocidal psychopath.

Well, that’s it for now. We’ve just got one more to go and that’ll be it for TTWC2. Stay tuned.

WIP Update – 05 Feb 16

I made more progress on Chapter 16 and by more I mean significantly more headway than previous days, which had all been well under par, and I can thank my work on the ship’s layout for that. It makes a big difference. Whether I can get through the chapter before I switch over remains to be seen, but I’ll give it the old college try. Stay tuned.

WIP Update – 04 Feb 16

I made a little more progress on Chapter 16 of JJ, but more time was spent on the ship’s layout. You wouldn’t think three decks 133m x 21m would fill up so fast, but simply accommodating the crew, to say nothing of cargo, armaments and various combat systems get you packed from bulkhead to bulkhead. I really don’t think I should make too many passageways any narrower than a meter, but a few places you have to go sideways to squeeze through. Maybe now that I’ve got a fairly clear idea of where Root and the gang need to go from point to point I can focus on getting the chapter done. Stay tuned.

WIP Update – 03 Feb 16

I made a little more progress on Chapter 16 of JJ, but again most of my time was dedicated to a non-writing task. I’ve been working out the layout of Junker-class cruisers to better visualize the flow of the action in the chapter. With my previous experience being the sprawling America-class heavy carriers from the Tico series, it’s quite a challenge to accommodate a crew of 277 in so much less space. I’m probably being more generous with some of the spaces than most real-life equivalents would be, which is why I’m finding myself so hard-pressed to get everything in. Still, I think I have enough to go on to finish plotting out the chapter. Stay tuned.

WIP Update – 02 Feb 16

I fell off the radar there for a bit. A mix of homework and family stuff kept me occupied. I got some writing done on Chapter 16 of JJ but spent a lot more time working out the horrific death toll of the story. Things get messy, to say the least. Spoiler alert. If I could get two chapters knocked out this week, that’d be great, but as 16 is going to be a long one, getting it done would suffice for me. Stay tuned.
